Most shower units can accommodate a soap niche which can be installed between two wall studs. Since all soap niches are customized in size and style, diversity makes building them unique and the outcome is always exciting! I always build them with at least a second shelf in them, and the most common material is travertine stone, or marble. Before installing the stone I always make sure the niche is properly waterproofed and that the shelves have some pitch for water runoff. I always like to make the first shelf extend a bit beyond the wall line which gives it a sexy look, and a larger surface area for storage.
